Der späthumanistisch-barocke Gelehrte Barth hatte das Werk insgesamt auf 180 Teile angelegt, von denen 60 Teile noch vor seinem Ableben im Druck realisiert werden konnten, die weiteren 120 Teile liegen dagegen lediglich als Handschriften vor. Zahlreiche Auszüge und Kommentare zu lateinischen Autoren mit insgesamt 7 Autoren- und 4 Sachregistern. Mit allegorischem Kupfertitel, Frontispiz (Portrait Caspar von Barths) und Titelvignette (als vorgeschaltete Druckermarke) in Kupferstich, Holzschnittvignetten und -initialen sowie einzelne Holzschnittabbildungen im Text sowie abschließend (zweite) Druckermarke in Holzschnitt. Einband gering berieben, handschriftlicher Rückentitel verblasst, an einigen Stellen springende Paginierung (Spalte 566 springt auf 577, es folgt Spalte 668, sowie weitere, Text jeweils fortlaufend und vollständig), Seiten leicht gebräunt und stellenweise gering stockfleckig, vereinzelt alte Tintenflecken, einige Seiten marginal knickspurig bzw. mit kleinen Randfehlstellen (ohne Textberührung und zum Teil mit Papier hinterlegt), Vorsätze etwas wurmgängig, Vorbesitzerstempel auf Spiegeln und Titelblattverso, Schnitt etwas berieben. Im Ganzen noch sehr gutes Exemplar. Contemporary vellum binding with handwritten title on the spine. Second Frankfurt edition of Caspar [also Kaspar] von Barth’s „Adversaria“, printed by the bookseller Johann Press. The baroque scholar originally planned to publish all 180 parts (respectively books, as it is called here) that he already finished in handwritten form, but only managed to publish the 60 books that are comprised in this copy before he passed away. They contain many abstracts and comments on various Latin authors as well as altogether 7 indices of authors and 4 subject indices. With a copper engraved allegorical half-title page, frontispiece (portrait showing Barth) and title vignette (first printer’s mark) as well as woodcut vignettes, initials, text figures and a second printer’s mark. Binding a little rubbed, handwritten title on spine brightened, non-consecutive pagination (text contrastingly consecutive and complete), pages a little darkened and partially with some foxing, sporadic stains of old ink, few pages with marginal crease marks resp. margins with defects (without text loss and partially repaired), end papers with some small worm holes, small previous owner’s stamps on end papers and verso title page, edges a little rubbed.
